Dr. Rainford M. Knight

CEO and Co-Founder, Transparency Global

Dr. Knight is the Co-Founder and CEO of Transparency Global, a company with a mission to accelerate the world’s adoption of transparency.

Dr. Knight’s experience spans both academia and industry. As an academic, he has been a finance professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University. Over the last three decades, Dr. Knight has made a significant impact on thousands of students’ lives, showing them the value of attaining finance knowledge.

Seeing the vast need to provide even more exposure to finance education, Dr. Knight developed the Financial Analyst Program (FAP) at Florida Atlantic University. The FAP trained and extended finance job opportunities to people of diverse backgrounds and experience levels that they would not have had access to otherwise. He successfully ran the FAP for 8 years, providing its students with the necessary skillsets to launch their finance careers. Lastly, Dr. Knight is a co-author of the finance textbook Principles of Finance, a digital finance textbook commissioned by Rice University’s OpenStax digital learning platform. The Principles of Finance textbook will be given away to universities and colleges for free.

In industry, Dr. Knight’s background is varied. As a consultant, he was part of a team advising a sovereign government on the restructuring of its financial sector after a financial crisis, providing positive impact for the nation. He helped to manage the sale of a USD $1billion ($40 billion local currency value) mortgage loan portfolio. Dr. Knight’s other consulting roles have included financial strategy and analytics, investment strategy development, valuation, and due diligence. He has advised public and private companies, family offices, private equity firms, emerging manager hedge funds, and start-ups.

Dr. Knight has been the CIO of a fund of hedge funds and the co-founder and COO of a hedge fund. He has been a regular speaker or moderator at hedge fund industry conferences on varied topics such as institutional due diligence, counter party risk, and the cost of regulation on alternatives.

He is a member of the CFA Institute, and former director and currently a member of the CFA Society of South Florida. He has also been an instructor for Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in the area of fixed income analysis.

Dr. Knight is a former co-chair of the Financial Advisory Task Force and member of the Business Development Board of Palm  Beach County and a board member of the Florida Alternative Investment Association (FLAIA).

Dr. Knight has a PhD in finance from Florida Atlantic University with a specialization in IPO performance and valuation.
